At IMPACT MEDIA, we are proud supporters and close friends of the Michael Strange Foundation in Pennsylvania. Michael Strange was one of the fallen special operations heroes in the tragic Extortion 17 incident, which took place in Afghanistan on August 6, 2011. The foundation, created by his father Mr. Charles Strange, is dedicated to helping Gold Star families (families who have lost a loved one in military service) cope with the grief of losing loved ones in service.

Petty Officer John Douangdara and his military working dog, Bart, were also among the heroes lost that day. John was the lead K9 handler for SEAL Team 6 Gold squadron, and he and Bart were aboard the CH-47 Chinook helicopter that was shot down during a mission to support fellow troops under fire.

In collaboration with the Michael Strange Foundation, and with the blessing of the Douangdara family, we created the prestigious John Douangdara & Bart the Warrior Dog Awards to honor their memory and courage.

This initiative is deeply personal to us, as IMPACT MEDIA is also producing a documentary film titled Extortion 17, scheduled for release in late 2025. Honoring John and Bart through these awards is not only a tribute—it’s a responsibility we carry with great respect.

Yes, there will be restrooms on-site, along with access to food and designated seating areas for attendees.

No, events will be scheduled at different times throughout the day, with breaks and food periods in between. A detailed schedule will be published on this site as the event date approaches.

General access allows you to observe from a safe distance. If you wish to take part more closely for educational purposes—alongside participants working with their dogs—you may request permission from TODOS in advance. A daily fee will apply.

Yes! The event takes place in Mirabel, just a short 30-minute drive from the stunning Laurentians region, which offers plenty of hotel options. For accommodations closer to the venue, we recommend searching in Mirabel, Lachute, Saint-Jérôme, and Saint-Eustache. There’s a range of choices to suit every preference, from countryside charm to more urban convenience.

The event takes place in the beautiful month of September—right at the start of color season—so expect cooler temperatures, especially in the mornings and evenings. Since the event is held in the countryside with many outdoor activities, we recommend dressing comfortably and practically. Some areas may be muddy, so sturdy footwear is a must. Always check the weather forecast in advance, and bring extra warm layers and an umbrella—just in case.

No, only registered participant dogs are allowed on-site during the event.

Alcohol will not be permitted during the event and demonstrations. However, there is a bistro/microbrewery on-site where attendees and participants are welcome to socialize after hours.

Yes, all participant dogs must be up to date on their vaccinations.

Yes, children aged 13 and over are allowed but must be accompanied by an adult at all times. The event is primarily intended for attendees aged 18 and over.
