During the first edition of UNITED K9, we met an inspiring young man from Pessamit — Luka Bakari. He shared his vision to help stray dogs across First Nations communities through education, care, and community involvement.
His determination and compassion quickly stood out. What began as a simple conversation during the event has since evolved into the foundation of FNK9 (First Nations K9) — a project we’re supporting as Luka works toward its official launch next year.
APTN recently featured Luka’s story, showcasing his journey, his commitment to animal welfare, and the positive change he hopes to bring to First Nations communities across Canada that are facing challenges with stray and abandoned dogs. The segment captures the heart of his mission — not just rescuing dogs, but promoting awareness, responsibility, and respect within communities.
UNITED K9 will continue to follow Luka’s progress as FNK9 takes shape — a movement born from passion, community spirit, and the belief that lasting change begins with compassion.
