French Ring

Saul Garcia's career with dogs began in the world of conformation, where he joined his uncle and grandfather in showcasing German Shepherds and other breeds. His passion for canine development led him to veterinary school in Mexico, where he focused on genetics, and later to Alberta, Canada, where he gained hands-on experience working in a veterinary clinic. During this time, he also began training service dogs for autistic children—an experience that cemented his lifelong commitment to the working dog community.

Saul's expertise quickly expanded into professional training and international competition. In Mexico, he trained police dogs and was first selected as a decoy in 2008. He went on to earn recognition as a Certified French Ring Decoy (Level 3) and has built an exceptional competitive record:

  • Multi-time Canadian Cup Winner (Levels 1, 2, and 3)

  • Three-time French Ring Canadian Finalist

  • 2019 NARA/CRA Grand Champion – Ring 2

  • 2022, 2023, and 2024 CRA Ring 3 Champion

  • 2023 Mexico Vice Champion

  • 2025 French Selectives competitor

  • 2020 Decoy Super Selection – Mexico

  • 2022 Decoy Selection – Mexico (2nd Place)

  • 2024 Decoy Selection – Mexico (5th Place)

To date, Saul has competed in more than 30 French Ring competitions, including making history as the first Canadian decoy invited to work the prestigious annual trial in St. Nabord, France.

Beyond sport, Saul is an active Police K9 and Personal Protection Dog Instructor, with notable achievements such as training the first German Shepherd in Canada to title in Ring 2 in more than 20 years, and developing the first active PSA/French Ring team to cross-train and compete simultaneously at just 18 months old.

He currently serves as President of the Canadian Ring Sport Association, where he works to promote the growth and development of French Ring across the country.

His influence also extends to breeding, where his program has produced dogs actively serving with law enforcement departments, SWAT teams, and in protection homes across Canada and the United States. He regularly conducts seminars in the U.S. and was instrumental in founding a French Ring group that successfully hosted its first official competition in 2023.

In addition, Saul remains deeply committed to dog welfare. He supports shelters by evaluating and rehoming surrendered or rescued dogs, applying his sharp ability to read canine behavior and pair dogs with suitable homes.

Known for his depth of research, collaborative approach with handlers, and instinctive connection with dogs, Saul Garcia continues to elevate the standard of working dog training—bringing out the best in every dog-and-handler team he mentors, regardless of discipline or application.
